After roaming through the inspiring but very expensive Chateau
des Antiquaires in Allaman, be sure to stop in at La Grange,
the unique consignment shop operated by Nini Stucki.
There
are often treasures to be found in this two story barn, an
outbuilding of the chateau. The ever-cheerful owner, Nini
Stucki, is a former ballerina who enjoyed a 14-year career
dancing with the London Festival Ballet and the American Ballet
Theater among other prestigious companies..
Stucki began dealing in antiques while she was still living
in London and active in the world of ballet. She opened a
small store in New Kings Road specialized in Art Nouveau and
Art Deco, still periods for which she still feels a particular
affinity. In the mid 1980s, this Vaud native returned to Switzerland
to open a shop just a few kilometers from her childhood home
in Buchillon.
"I
love what I do,"says Stucki, beaming over her desk which
is inevitably piled high with newspaper clippings, articles
about antiques, and old issues of La Gazette de L'Hotel Drouot.
La Grange is a Depot Vente, or consignment shop, but Stucki
accepts only items which have some artistic or antique value.
