Galerie Mazarini: Lyon, France
Old master drawings, watercolors and paintings
From the XVIth to the beginning of the XXth century

This extraordinary small shop in the heart of Lyon's old town offers a marvelous selection of original art work at remarkably reasonable prices.

Many of the striking sketches and paintings on paper in the shop are priced as low as FF 300, and a wide choice of truly extraordinary pieces are available for FF 1000 to FF 8000. The works available range from old master drawings, to early twentieth century sketches, water colors and paintings. One unusual folder is dedicated to beautiful original sketches for fabric designs.

Nicole and Fabrice Rivas, the mother and son team who run the shop, recently acquired a large collection of works by French artist Henry de Waroquier (1881 to 1970), most of which are priced in the FF 4000 to FF 8000 range.

Left and Right: Sketches by Henry de Waroquier

Henry de Waroquier had an exceptionally long and prolific career which spanned the great trends of his age -- art nouveau, japonisme, the nabis, and the school of Pont Aven. The drawings at Galerie Mazarini show a great pleasure in the flow of line, and are often whimsical in their themes. De Waroquier's works are currently the subject of a series of exhibitions at the Musée des Années 30 in Boulogne-Billancourt.
