SION
Grotto de La Fontaine
Grand-Pont 21
1950 Sion/VS
027 323 83 77
This wondeful restaurant in the heart of Sion's charming
old town specializes in dishes from Tessin and northern Italy.
The atmosphere is casual, but the food is elegantly prepared.
Dishes range from simple pizzas, to elaborately prepared meals
based on intense, flavorful ingredients: foie gras, white
truffles, quail, and rabbit.
Don't expect to find an intimate corner table here. The restaurant
is normally very full, and guests sit close together at long
marble top tables. The focus is not the atmosphere, but your
taste buds.
The wine list is excellent and features interesting selections
from the Valais, Italy and Tessin. We drank one of the current
house selections: a delightful 1998 Sauvignon Blanc from the
vineyard Rene Favre et Fils which is located not far from
Sion in St. Pierre de Clages. It was so delicious we dashed
to a wine shop across the street to buy several bottles to
bring home.
